NASCAR Sprint Cup Series - Charlotte 500
October 12, 2013 - Charlotte Motor Speedway
Paul Menard, No. 27
Paul Menard will pilot chassis No. 428 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This No. 27 Chevrolet SS was raced previously this season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway. Menard has 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway. His best start of fifth and best finish of eighth both came in 2010. The Wisconsin native has completed 4,444 of 4,636 laps attempted (95.9 percent) at the 1.5-mile track.
I enjoy racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's a 1.5-mile track and we've had some of our best runs at intermediate tracks this year. We're coming off a top-10 finish at Kansas (Speedway), another 1.5-mile track, so hopefully that will give us a little momentum going into the weekend. Turns one and two at Charlotte are different from turns three and four. The angles are different and the banking feels different. You have to be able to get back on the gas early and hard when you exit the turns in order to get around there fast. There's a lot of grip and the tires are usually hard, so the key is getting the car to point off of the corners and get on the throttle hard. It's a 500-mile Saturday night race, so depending on the weather, the track conditions will change from the start of the race to the end. We'll need to make sure we stay on top of our setups and make a good qualifying run on Thursday so we can start up front on Saturday. - Paul Menard
ABC's live coverage from Charlotte Motor Speedway begins Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The race will also be broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
