Ryan Preece Finishes Sixth at Homestead-Miami Speedway

The Ford EcoBoost 300 took place at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday, November 17th at 3:30 pm EST. Ryan Preece qualified his No. 18 Rheem Toyota in the 12th position. The goal of Saturday’s race was to try and end the season with a win for the No. 18 Rheem team.

The race was run under green except for the two-stage ends that came on lap 45 and lap 90. Stage one came to a conclusion with Preece making his way up to the eighth position. Preece reported to the team that he had no drive through the center of the corner and that he had to back off the throttle too much in order for the car to turn. The pit crew made minor adjustments to the Rheem Camry and got him back on track in eighth on lap 51.

The second stage came to a close on lap 90 with Preece running in the fifth position. The crew asked Preece what he needed to help him get towards the front, and he responded with a minor adjustment that allows the right front to have more bite. The race would restart on lap 96 with Preece remaining in the fifth position.

With the race staying green, the team would report to Preece that the pit window would open on lap 140, and that he should be ready to bring his Toyota down pit road. The call came on lap 142 with the crew giving Preece four sticker tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. The race would cycle back out on lap 159 with Preece recorded in sixth.

Preece would maintain the sixth position and come home with a solid finish in his last race with Joe Gibbs Racing and Rheem. The sixth-place finish recapped a strong year for Preece, where he was able to record one win, seven top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes over 15 races.

Are you happy with the season you had with Joe Gibbs Racing?

“This year has been very exciting for me personally. I can’t thank Rheem enough for giving me the opportunity to compete for 10 races this season. They allowed me to showcase my talent and snag a win for them in the process. I have really enjoyed my time at Joe Gibbs Racing and I am glad that I had the opportunity to be a part of such a great organization.”
