NASCAR Truck Series - 1-800-CAR-CASH Mud Summer Classic
July 22, 2015 - Eldora Speedway
Ty Dillon, No. 33
Ty Dillon returns to GMS Racing and the No. 33 Rheem Tankless Water Heaters Chevrolet when the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) visits Eldora Speedway for the 1-800-CAR-CASH Mud Summer Classic presented by THE PROFIT. Dillon, a seasoned dirt late-model and modified racer, has two NCWTS starts at the half-mile clay track, including a fifth-place finish in last year’s Mud Summer Classic.
Dillon, an experienced dirt car racer, has also raced late models at Eldora Speedway for his family-owned and operated race team, Team Dillon Racing. He competed in the annual Prelude to the Dream in 2012 and attempted to qualify for the World 100 in September 2011.
Eldora marks Dillon’s third NCWTS start with GMS Racing in 2015. Dillon kicked off the season by winning the pole award at Daytona International Speedway and leading 37 laps before losing the draft and finishing 11th. Dillon’s strong Daytona run was followed by a second-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway a week later.
Dillon will pilot chassis No. 047 at Eldora Speedway. This will be the first time this particular Chevrolet is raced.
You seem to like racing at Eldora. Are you excited for the Mud Summer Classic?
Eldora Speedway is the mecca of dirt racing and one of my favorite dirt tracks. I love the atmosphere and the fans that come to this race each year. Tony (Stewart) and his staff have done an incredible job, and I’m glad the trucks race here each year. I remember coming to Eldora when I was younger with Team Dillon Racing and thinking how special it would be to win here. It’s one of those “bucket list” victories that you’d like to record and hopefully we’ll be able to put this No. 33 Rheem Tankless Water Heaters Chevy in Victory Lane. - Ty DillonWhy do you love dirt racing?
It’s what we grew up doing. It’s my family’s business at TDR. I’ve always said dirt is for racing on and asphalt is for getting you there. When Austin (Dillon) and I started racing when we were just teenagers, we would race 80-90 times per year in our late models. I’ve had an incredible teacher in Shane and Dale McDowell growing up; they’ve been an instrumental part of my dirt racing success. I hope we can bring home the win in our Rheem Chevrolet on Wednesday because I know how special it would be not only to GMS Racing, but for Team Dillon Racing, too. - Ty Dillon
