Three years into our sustainability program, we know more than ever that people are our greatest resource. Our global employees are the key to making progress towards our ambitious goals. By working together, we’ve created results that are already changing our industry for the better. We’re proud to share these accomplishments in our 2021 Sustainability Progress Report, People-Powered Innovation.
Rheem’s sustainability program, A Greater Degree of Good™, is how we lead our industry on environmental stewardship and make a tangible impact for future generations. Our initiative is built on three pillars, and our report provides updates on our recent progress against the goals within each pillar.
Degrees of Innovation: We have a goal to launch by 2025 a line of heating, cooling and water heating products that boast a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas footprint. To advance this goal and to ensure that we’re improving the environmental impact of all the products we create, in 2021 we rolled out key product sustainability elements to our businesses in North America. These elements empower our product teams to build sustainability into the DNA of our products and empower consumers to easily find and select efficient products that will make the biggest difference for the environment. This year, we’re scaling these elements to our global businesses.
Degrees of Efficiency: Another one of our sustainability goals is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and achieve Zero Waste to Landfill in our global manufacturing operations by 2025. Our focus is on operational excellence, working smarter and more sustainably to consume fewer resources, generate less waste and ensure simpler, safer processes. In 2021, our teams made impressive progress on these goals globally, saving more than three million kilowatt-hours through energy efficiency improvements and reducing, reusing and recycling more waste, with four global sites already achieving Zero Waste to Landfill status.
Degrees of Leadership: We’ve committed to training 250,000 plumbers, contractors and key influencers on sustainable products or sustainable installation and recycling best practices by 2025. Plumbers and installers are leaders in the adoption of efficient products and sustainable practices. They have day-to-day contact with homeowners, business owners and end-users and their recommendations are the gold standard. In recognition of that fact, our sustainability training helps plumbers and installers recommend better-grade sustainable products that are good for the environment and for their bottom line. By training 149,566 industry stakeholders to date, we’re on track to exceed our goal, helping thousands of plumbers and installers build their business and attract new customers and members of the workforce. In 2021, U.S. Water Heating Division trained 16,369 plumbers and key influencers.
When we think about sustainability at Rheem®, we know that actions speak louder than words. It’s not just about what we say. It’s about what we do. It’s a promise we make to each other, to our customers, to the communities where we work and live and to our families at home. We can’t just say we’re keeping our promise—we have to show how we’re doing it. That’s why we’re excited to share our 2021 Sustainability Progress Report. Thanks for partnering with us to advance progress across our industry!
